Alp Danatz, Splügen / Bodmastafel 1790 m: Alp Danatz, a horseshoe-shaped alpine pasture with stables for 132 cows and 40 pigs, and a large dairy hut, built of fieldstone with a gneiss slab roof. Alp Danatz in Splügen is managed as a cooperative alpine pasture. Approximately 110-120 cows are grazed there each summer (mostly from Splügen and Sufers). Cheese has not been produced on the alp for many years. The milk (produced according to Bio Suisse guidelines) is transported daily by milk tanker to the Splügen dairy, where it is processed into cheese, butter, yogurt, and other specialties. At the beginning of summer, the cows are let out onto the pastures in the Bodmenstafel region (lower pasture); from mid-summer onward, they are moved to the upper pasture (Lattenstafel). ... The pastures south of the Bodmenstafel chairlift towards the Splügen Pass also belong to the Danatz Alp and are used as a pasture for dry cattle.

An incredibly beautiful place, which we easily reached on foot from Splügen. The hut is not staffed, but can be booked for one night. Drinking water is fetched from the spring by boat... row across the upper Surettasee, enjoy the panorama, and refill your drinking water supplies at the spring... a truly adventurous experience.

While down in the Rheinwald, in Sufers, traffic rumbles on the A13, up here you can enjoy the peace and romance of the Cufercal hut. Popular with hikers and bikers, it is the only SAC hut in the Beverin Nature Park, where the ibex was reintroduced in 1954. The half-dozen small lakes in the immediate vicinity are particularly attractive. In winter, the terrain is suitable for easy ski and snowshoe tours. Reservations can be made online by 6:00 p.m. the evening before at the latest under “Prices/Reservations”.

Hotel Bodenhaus, Splügen in the Rheinwald The Bodenhaus has been the solitaire of Splügen since it was built in 1722. The building originally served as a storage room for transported goods, contained the post office and offered accommodation and food for travelers. In 1822 the Bodenhaus was converted into a comfortable hotel. The guest books contain famous names such as: Albert Einstein, Friedrich Nietzsche, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, William Turner, Napoleon III and Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Austria.
