Sturdy footwear is recommended. There is no water along the trail. It can be cool and slippery at times. €9 for adults, €6 for youths up to 16 (as of 2025).

As of October 2024: the Bärenschützklamm is open again (apparently since September) and has been repaired. Perhaps autumn is the best time to visit it: the changing foliage is very attractive and there is a good chance that you won't be able to walk it without running water...

We were even able to visit this great gorge twice before it was closed. Great stairs and bridges and wonderful insights into the forces of nature! We were even lucky enough to come across wild ibexes on both tours when descending from the "Good Shepherd". Highly recommended as soon as it reopens!

Entry to the gorge is on a donation basis. All donations are used to maintain the paths and bridges.

The Bärenschützklamm in the is an impressive water-bearing rock gorge with limestone walls up to 300 meters high. The path leads over 164 wooden bridges with more than 2,500 rungs through the narrow gorge from Mixnitz up to the Guter Hirte inn. The gorge was closed after a tragic accident in July 2020, but is expected to reopen in August 2024.

The view of the gorge is very beautiful but not passable with larger dogs. Unfortunately we had to turn around!

Fabulous hike, well-signed, a few dicey spots here and there but overall a spectacular canyon with an unparalleled opportunity to experience it on wooden bridges and stairs

Unfortunately, the inn is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (as of April 2024) The hiking trail is very beautiful, sturdy shoes are recommended.
