The Lavaux vineyard terraces are a wine-growing region that was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2007. The area is located in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland and borders Lake Geneva for a length of thirty kilometres between Lausanne and Vevey. The Chasselas is mainly grown in the area. The area covers 898 hectares, of which 574 are planted with grapes. There are 14 municipalities within the World Heritage: Lutry, Villette, Grandvaux, Cully, Riex, Epesses, Puidoux, Chexbres, Rivaz, Saint-Saphorin, Chardonne, Corseaux, Corsier-sur-Vevey and Jongny.

The Alignement mégalithique de Lutry in Switzerland is a fascinating Neolithic megalithic site consisting of 23 menhirs divided into two segments. Discovered in 1984 and reconstructed in 1986, the stones are placed next to each other with almost no gaps, which is unique. Some of the menhirs have human forms and engravings, suggesting that they may have had a ritual function. The largest stones are up to 3 meters high, while others are no higher than 80 cm. This site offers an intriguing insight into the prehistoric culture and rituals of the region.

I recommend the high pass and a stop in Granvaux. The route is through the vineyards, with exceptional views and respect for the farm workers. Little traffic, some steep climbs, but we arrive with enthusiasm. In Granvaux, a "Corto Maltaise" village, take the time to go to the restaurant terraces and enjoy an ice cream: with the view, it has a different flavor!
