The path from the grotto is definitely closed. To start the tour, you should climb back up to the village after visiting the grotto and turn left on the left side, before the village road meets the country road. Go past the sign pointing to the grotto restaurant on the right and continue down the slope. The dog is chained up and barks unmotivatedly.

Great food, great desserts, spectacular views, little streets and alleys to discover. What more could you want?

Visit Nicotera, calmly, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

Nicotera Alta is worth a visit... Going down. The old part is located below and among the alleys a thousand surprises. You start from the old Jewish quarter and then end up at Porta Palmentieri, one of the last old entrances to the village, still standing... Try it and believe it.

the trick is to start from the balcony behind the Castle, go down under the walls and enter the ancient part of the village. Arriving at Porta Palmentieri, with its spectacular view and starting the climb again, passes through streets and alleys. Seeing is believing.

Rione San Giuseppe, with its Church and the gem of the Church dedicated to Santa Chiara. I recommend getting lost in the side streets, with endless surprises for those with eyes to see....

Nicotera, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. To appreciate its charm, you have to start from the top and go down, to get lost in the streets of the oldest neighborhoods where you can breathe history. Getting lost to find the ancient walls, the old access gates to the town and for the more enterprising, trying to get to the sea along the old Roman road perhaps coming across old finds, such as the braceria which served as a lighthouse for sailors who landed in the in the port that no longer exists today and of which there is no trace except in history books. The castle is the icing on the cake.
