The Strid is a section of the River Wharfe and considered to be one of the most dangerous sections of rivers in the UK. The river is forced through a narrow gap at Great pressure.

Nice walk which can be extended to find the secret waterfall

Visit on a bike and no payment for parking. Miles of walking . Nice cafe. The estate is owned by the Duke of Devonshire and is open to visitors who pay to park. Fascinating area, with loads of history. Monastery was founded in 1120 as a priory. The Embassy and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway runs from here. The Dales Way passes through the estate. It gets really busy during the summer when visitors bring picnics and paddle in the river.

A stunning waterfall near Bolton Abbey in the Valley of Desolation. There are a number of waterfalls here, but this one is likely the most impressive. It is extremely picturesque, with a small pool and a stream that leads into a glen. An absolute must to see!

Absolutely stunning walk took me longer than I thought because the views were spectacular and it was a rather warm day so had to keep topping to cool the doggo down.

Kids may benefit from either a change of clothes or waterproof trousers as these are often muddy

Located on the banks of the River Wharfe, this 12th-century Augustinian monastery was once an important destination and belong to a powerful local landlord. It was closed in 1539 during the dissolution of the monasteries ordered by Henry VIII. Nowadays, the estate is open to the paying public, but you can run past the ruins for free.

Simon's Seat is a prominent grit stone outcrop at 485m just within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. There is a trig point and amazing views across the Dales. Simon's Seat is on the Bolton Abbey estate and is accessible to all as it's on open access land.

Barden Tower is a ruined building that had lain empty since the 18th century. It was one of six hunting lodges built in the 15th century by Henry Clifford. The tower became a hub for local hamlets and farms as there was no nearby village centre.

take the downhill path to the left of the main trail and cross a small bridge. Approx 100 along is a descent to the right on a rocky path which brings you to the waterfall
