In the Middle Ages, it had a castle (since destroyed). The Pagani House Museum, the birthplace of Paolo Pagani, an important 17th-century Lombard painter, is open to visitors (a work is on display in the main living room of the Fogazzaro house). He left behind important works, such as the fresco on the vault of the church of San Martino, a masterpiece of the Italian Baroque. Castello was the birthplace of many architects and sculptors who worked in Italy and Europe. Their homes, such as those of the Fontana family and that of Domenico Merlini, can still be seen.

Overlooking Lake Ceresio, in that "Little Ancient World" described by Fogazzaro, the Marian temple stands where the miracle occurred on May 11, 1562. Its connection with Saint Charles Borromeo and the 17th-century expansions made it a treasure trove of art and faith.

Throughout the core, on a racing bike, you will have to push (stairs everywhere).

The square in front of the church features a beautiful fountain and benches for relaxing. A drinking water fountain is located at its southeast corner.

The lakeside promenade of Porlezza offers bars, restaurants and gelaterias at the northern end, and further south there are quiet benches under shady trees, and it continues to the bathing beach on the lake.

The Lungo Lago of Porlezza is not very long, but it has a lot to offer, including this fountain at its northern end.

A walk from the Begna direction, and a beautiful, challenging trail from the other side of the gorge. A dip in the waterfall is a must.

From here the path becomes increasingly steep and narrow, slippery in wet weather in winter and autumn. Difficult climb to the top. Then also very difficult descent over narrow rocky paths, then wide but steep descent to the city
