Moulin Jeannottat is a picturesque site located in the Jura region of Switzerland where you can indulge in a challenging trail run. You will follow the Doubs, cross forests and meadows and pass this historic mill dating from the 17th century and used for grinding grain and sawing wood. It also served as a border post between France and the Principality of Basel until 1780. The mill is now privately owned, but you can admire its architecture and surroundings.

If you want to give some inspiration to your run, you absolutely must go to the Chute du Bief de Vautenaivre. It is a majestic natural site where a small stream flows from a rocky overhang that was once a seabed. You can see ancient fossils embedded in the ceiling of the cave-like shelter. You will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the waterfall and surrounding forest.

The Hotel du Doubs has been a stop on our hikes for many years. It could be the 22km from La Maison-Monsieur, or the short 15km from Les Bois-Goumois. Or a kayak tour from Goumois to Soubey and beyond. Or short circular hikes in Goumois itself.

The small campsite (300m away) is private. There is a sign there telling you to go to the Moulin Jeannottat restaurant. However, this no longer exists. It is best to inquire directly with the resident / owner of the house.

Goumois is a Franco-Swiss village on the Doubs. The Monkey Rock overlooks this village which overlooks the river. It is a famous place for kayaking and canoeing.
