Nestled at the foot of the Aubert and Mounicot hillocks, this lake is the first in a long series when you come from one of the two passes.

The Gaubie valley includes the Gaubie and Pountou bridges. It houses the ruins of the Gaubie cabins and leads to the Aygues Cluses plateau and its refuge.

Tournaboup is a small outdoor sports resort equipped with a bike park with ski lifts. For hikers, it is above all an opportunity to fill water bottles in a fountain and to have a bite to eat on the restaurant terrace while seeing the valley which descends towards the Néouvielle.

La hourquette d'Aubert, which rises to an altitude of 2,498 meters, offers a beautiful overview of the Néouvielle reserve. It marks the end of your courageous ascent from Barèges, and the beginning of the descent towards the lakes. Those of Aubert and Aumar will open the ball. Small clarification, an hourquette designates in Gascon, a succession of passes whose silhouette forms a fork. The term is mainly used in Pyrenean toponymy.

Located at 2,041 meters above sea level, dets Coubous is a reservoir lake. In other words, it is a water reservoir whose level is controlled and which fulfills utility purposes (sanitation system, irrigation, etc.). In addition to its usefulness, this body of water offers a splendid panorama of the Néouvielle reserve. It is also the first in a long series of lakes. It marks, as it were, the northern entrance to the reserve.

When hiking, we often forget to turn around to watch and enjoy the show. This mound deserves a short stop to contemplate the valley that takes you straight to the Néouvielle. You will then be able to see the elevation gain and the distance traveled from the Grand Tourmalet car park.
