A beautiful glacial lake. The best time to run here is during the summer months, from June to September. Keep in mind that the weather can change quickly, so be prepared for sudden temperature changes or rain, even in summer. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, such as chamois, wild goats, and various bird species.

The town hall of Posada de Valdeón displays a typical mountain architecture of the region. A few meters from the building, there is a small stream which offers you the opportunity to clean the soles of your shoes, if necessary. The town is very charming, with a few small restaurants and inns where you can rest before or after the hike.

The best time to visit Lake Enol is in the summer months from July to September, when the weather is pleasant and the lake is not frozen over. The views of the lake and surrounding mountains are breathtaking! The scenery is particularly beautiful early in the morning when the mist rises from the lake. There are picnic areas and restrooms near the lake, as well as a small cafe that sells snacks and drinks.

Magical place with a wonderful landscape. On a day without fog you can enjoy all its splendor. Lake Enol and Lake Ercina form the complex known as Lagos de Covadonga. Lake Enol is the larger of the two. A curiosity: An image of the Virgin of Covadonga is submerged in the lake, which is elevated every September 8 to be taken out in procession.

The southern face of the summit is protected by steep rocky spurs and the ascent itinerary follows the center of the large snow ramp towards the western col, making the appropriate zetas depending on your physical condition and snow conditions. At the outlet of the blade, cornices or steps of delicate mix with little snow may appear. The final section presents no complications, following a comfortable snow ramp to the spectacular top of the Cornión bastion. The towers of the universal Picos de Europa look magnificent on all sides.

1월 16, 2023, Vega de Llós
In the first houses of Soto de Valdeón, the white and yellow milestones of the marked path that goes up to Vega de Llós appear. The change of pace is notable, the path makes some curves to gain altitude and continues along the slope of the mountain. The path passes through the meadows of the Bustiello pass and ends at a mountain track that local ranchers use to drive up from Soto de Valdeón to the pastures of Vega de Llós. The summit of Torre Bermeja is covered by the enormous stepped pillars that form the southern face of the massif above the Vega de Llós cirque. The atmosphere is overwhelming because it has the appearance of a completely inhospitable and inaccessible wall. It is a natural border separating two different worlds, the territory domesticated by the shepherds of Valdeón and the wild kingdom of the limestone towers of Picos de Europa. The livestock track ends in the beautiful pastoral sheepfold of Vega de Llós, there are cabins, fountains, watering holes for the animals, meadows, panoramic views and everything collected in a magnificent mountain circus enclosed at the foot of the limestone walls of Los Moledizos and the pedestals of the Peña Bermeja massif. The mountain tops are close but very high, and the technical and problematic section remains when there is poor visibility. In Picos de Europa, unpredictable fogs often appear that can completely complicate the itinerary due to the unique geographic typology of the mountains. On many occasions the routes have passages forced by small projections hung between two sheets of vertical walls or use gaps and hills that do not have clear and obvious accesses. Orienteering in good visibility requires some experience but in fog you have to be really expert and know the terrain. Now with the download of the track on satellite devices, orientation improves but in complicated situations, safety is always at risk and you have to have prudence, intuition and common sense. The route continues up through the center of the cirque to a rustic stone fence that uses blocks of limestone rock. At this point, a path leaves to the left (west) that passes at the foot of Peña Parda and heads towards the Collado del Frade and the Refugio de Vegabaño route. The climb continues in a northwesterly direction, avoiding the walls that close the enormous amphitheater of Llós. In winter the snow covers the ground and the trails do not appear. On this slope there are a couple of detours to the left that also lead to the Frade pass and the Canal del Perro path. The Bermeja route changes course towards the east and looks for the natural passage of the Travesona path, covering the slopes from the base of the Torre del Collado Verde to the small Collado Verde. This hard ice traverse is quite exposed. In the panoramic Verde Col, a small descent begins along the east face to the entrance of the Canal del Bufón, which is the threshold to begin the final ascent up the large southwest shovel of Torre Bermeja.

1월 16, 2023, Posada de Valdeón
The limestone watchtowers of Torre Bermeja form one of the enormous geographical pillars of the Valdeón region, a formidable presentation of the energetic blocks of limestone architecture of the Cornión Massif. The ascent of La Bermeja in winter conditions and good weather does not present great technical difficulties except for the final blade, which can be around a 40º/45º slope from the Canal del Bufón, and the cornices that can appear to enter the rope and reach the summit. The route leaves the urban center of Posada de Valdeón along the road to the port of Pontón and Riaño. It immediately turns to the right along a rural road that crosses the River Cares by a bridge and leads to the town of Soto de Valdeón.

The Lago Enol is the larger of the two Lagos de Covadonga, you can already see it from the bus shortly before arriving at the final stop. A lake beautifully situated in the mountains, a short walk from the bus stop.

Lago Ercina is the smaller of the two Lagos de Covadonga. You walk on the cow pasture between comfortably grazing cows from the neighboring hiker's restaurant (with its own parking lot) to the lake and around the lake, the whole landscape here is very idyllic, but also very well visited. Lago Ercina is a good starting point for a fairly short hike around the Pico Bricial - or for longer tours, for example to the edge of the Garganta del Cares.
