Peaceful forest close to Virklund and some beautiful lakes. Along the railway path you can find benches to rest.

You can spend the whole day here. Bathing, swimming, canoeing, hiking, and of course, mountain biking :-)

The parking lot was relatively full, as there's so much to do at this hotspot. A swimming lake, a barbecue hut with restrooms, and a shower house. The mountain bike trail, and so on... Parking is permitted on the shoulder of the main road in both directions, which was very convenient for us with our Sprinter van.

A very nice trail. It's 17 km long and really makes the most of the few meters of elevation gain.

Bølling Sø is a remarkable place with a fascinating history. Once a vast lake, it was drained in the 19th century to create farmland and peat bogs. In one of these bogs, the world-famous Tollund Man was discovered. In a major and successful conservation effort, the lake was recreated in 2005. The area today is a beautiful example of a restored landscape, with a large, shallow lake at its centre.

This observation tower offers you a fantastic view of Grathe hede, a place of great historical significance. From the top of the tower, you can get a panoramic view of the heathland that was once the site of the famous Battle of Grathe Heath in 1157, where King Svend Grathe was killed. It's a powerful experience to stand at this vantage point and take in the view of the landscape where such a key event in Danish history occurred.

There is a toilet and a water fountain.

Østre Søbad at Almindsø near Silkeborg is one of Denmark's cleanest lakes. Here are two round, impressive bathing jetties right next to each other with a children's pool and facilities such as changing rooms, lovely benches, toilets and a sauna.
