The Shkumbin (Albanian also Shkumbini or Shkembi; Latin Genusus; ancient Greek Γενούσος Genoúsos) is a river in central Albania. One of the most important ancient trade routes in the Balkans, the Via Egnatia, followed the course of the river, giving the Shkumbin the role of a strategically important corridor between East and West.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, larger mines were built in Përrenjas, which mainly supplied the steelworks in Elbasan.[6] The town was founded in 1953 as accommodation for the residents of the Pishkash mine to the northwest and was named after the nearby village.[5] Iron and nickel were mined in open-cast and underground mines, some of which was also processed on site.[2][7] Since the end of the 1990s, most mining activities have been discontinued, but chromium is still to be mined in cooperation with an Italian company.[8][9]

Heaven and people on Sunday all shops open, I don't know if it was a special day, but great market 👍

A wonderful place to stay, Aida the landlady spoiled us and is happy to have guests. A house built with great care and lots of handwork.

The road is in good condition, a bit narrow but not too much traffic, always the opportunity to stop with the bike to enjoy the panorama of the mountains and the lake 🚴
