At an altitude of 745 meters, the surrounding area offers breathtaking views and untouched natural experiences. For children there is a play village and a small pet zoo, making the Thuringian Rhönhaus a perfect destination for families. The restaurant itself is a culinary highlight. With dishes inspired by the original Rhön recipes, it invites you to go on a culinary journey. Whether hearty Rhön potato soup or sweet cream puffs with strawberries, the dishes are a feast for the palate. The atmosphere in the Thuringian Rhönhaus is rustic and authentic. In summer, guests can sit in a relaxed garden, while in winter the cozy parlor invites you to linger. It is a place where you can feel the peace of the Rhön and leave everyday life behind you for a while. A gentle veil of mist still lies in the alleys as I stroll through the old town of Fladen. The first rays of sun fight their way through the cloud cover and bathe the half-timbered houses in a warm light. It is quiet, almost as if the town is still slumbering, wrapped in the history of its medieval walls. The footsteps echo on the cobblestones as I walk along the city walls, a striking reminder of days long past. I feel small next to these massive structures that have stood here since the 14th century and could tell countless stories. I stroll on past the open-air museum, which looks like a time capsule and impressively preserves rural building culture. I hardly meet a soul, only the distant ringing of a church bell breaks the silence. It's like walking through a living painting, that's how authentic and untouched Fladen feels. The scent of fresh wood and earth is in the air, and I let my gaze wander over the carefully restored half-timbered houses. They are witnesses to a tradition of craftsmanship that is lovingly maintained here, in Bavaria's northernmost city. I take a break at the “Gasthaus Zur Krone”, where I just drink a cappuccino, but already know that I will come back for the regional specialties. It's this simple pleasure that defines a place like Fladungen - no rush, no distractions, just the here and now. Before I continue my hike, I take a look at the small shops and the quiet corners that give Fladen its charm. I let the image of the city resonate in my mind - not too big, not too loud, but just right to warm the heart of every hiker.
