This is one of the more than 300 knight stones of the Palatinate Forest Association (PWV). It stands directly on the K 16 county road (Wachenheim - Lindenberg) and indicates a very "busy" place with an eventful history: In Roman times, a junction from Speyer via the Weinbiet to Lambertskreuz, then a customs station (between the Electorate of the Palatinate and the Diocese of Speyer) and in 1794 a Prussian redoubt (against the French revolutionary troops). CAUTION: This steep, very rooty forest path is difficult for some older hikers to walk on - especially when going downhill and when it is wet! At the point where the "Herbert-Weg" sign hangs on a tree, there is a very steep, tight curve down this forest path. Long-time hikers have told me that a hiker once had a serious (possibly fatal) accident here - in snow and ice. No one could confirm to me whether this was the reason for this sign for Herbert.
