There is no doubt that the refuge is not a standard model. It actually has a special history. In 1932, the Hersfeld pastor Simon Erich Freudenstein built the hut together with unemployed young people. It is the start of the path over the Stellerskuppe to the Eisenberg. A memorial plaque also commemorates the honorary chairman of the Knüllgebirgsverein, Harry Heussner, to whom the tower and the former hiking lodge on the Eisenberg go back.

The Eisenberg trail leads underneath the hut. The short detour up the narrow path is worth it: there is a nice view and there are some outdoor seating areas where you can take a rest. The hut itself is not accessible.

Unfortunately it's right on the A7 motorway and it's so loud that you can't even have a normal conversation. Just get out of there quickly!

Yes, the good old cross oak. Unfortunately, the old oak tree is no longer there and the highway spoils a hike. Nevertheless, it is a central hiking point.
