In spring and summer, when the water flows along the river, it is beautiful and impressive to look at.

The mountain mill stood on the upper main market until 1895, first mentioned in a document in 1378 and probably built immediately after the construction of the Leina Canal. Following the Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe model, after the mountain mill was demolished as part of the redesign of the main market on Schlossberg, an artificial cascade-like drain for the Leina Canal was built in just six months of construction, the water art (inauguration celebrations on October 15th and 31st, 1895). Under the leadership of the Gotha civil engineer Hugo Mairich (1863–1904), an urban landmark was created that has not lost its appeal to this day and is probably one of the decisive factors for the continued operation of the Leina Canal. A bronze bust of engineer Hugo Mairich was placed in a niche in the cellar by the Leinakanal Friends' Circle. Mairich was also the designer of Gotha's road paving and water supply. The small wildcat village is definitely worth a visit. During the guided feeding you will learn interesting information about wild cats and lynxes. Opening times: April 1st - 31st October 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., in the low season (November-March) SA, SUN, public holidays and holidays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m Entrance fee is paid in the wildcat barn in town, where you can also learn a lot about wildcats in a small exhibition.

The view of the market from the castle is very nice.
