The parking lot is located right next to Huka Falls. Hiking trails and designated cycling routes also start from here. We found that it's worth getting there early. Tour buses arrive around midday, and it quickly becomes crowded and confusing.

We arrived about 10 minutes before the scheduled opening time for the dam and discovered that it had already been opened. Apparently, the times aren't strictly adhered to. Unfortunately, we and many others missed the spectacle.

Hikers' parking lot, possibility to book a speedboat tour or just take a rest. A small cart sells coffee and cold drinks. From here you can get to the viewing points if you want to watch the dam opening.
