11월 7, 2025, Fort de Douamont
Fort Duomont is an interesting historical site. Here you can practically feel the claustrophobia the soldiers must have experienced while fighting here. It's also impressive to think how many died trying to capture this hill.

5월 18, 2025, Point X (La Crête des Éparges)
Point X marks the eastern end of the Crête des Éparges, where fierce fighting took place between French and German troops in April 1915. It was captured by the 8th Infantry Regiment after heavy mine warfare and trench warfare. Today, a monument stands here in memory of the thousands of soldiers who fought and died here. The area is still marked by craters and trenches.

This serene military cemetery was founded in 1915 and is the home of 2,960 French soldiers who fell during the bloody battles around the Crête des Éparges. Among them was Robert Porchon, friend of the writer Maurice Genevoix. The necropolis is located in the Hadimel ravine, at the foot of the ridge, and contains an ossuary with 852 unknown soldiers. A silent witness to the hell of trench warfare.

The Ossuary of Douaumont is an impressive memorial that holds the remains of more than 130,000 unknown French and German soldiers who died during the Battle of Verdun (1916). The bones are visible through small windows in the base – a confronting reminder of the horrors of war. In front of the ossuary is the Nécropole nationale de Douaumont, the largest French military cemetery of the First World War, with 16,142 graves, including a Muslim and Jewish plot. The complex was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2023.

Built in 1881 above the Tunnel de Tavannes to reinforce the inner defensive belt of Verdun. The battery had three firing platforms and a traverse shelter, and was originally armed with two 220 mm mortars and one 22 cm smoothbore mortar. In 1900 it was disarmed and reused during the Battle of Verdun (1916) as an ammunition depot and shelter for troops. The traverse shelter is the best preserved element visible today.

This monument represents the mass grave where on 22 December 1944 the mutilated bodies of 16 resistance fighters, slaughtered by the Gestapo, were found at the southern entrance of the Tavennes tunnel. Among the victims were 15 French, 1 Belgian and 1 unknown. A plaque lists the names of these brave men who died as heroes in the fight against the Germans. These brave men were killed at dawn on 31 August 1944. A panel gives a face to all but a few of the murdered victims. A place where no lessons were learned from the First World War.
