The Rhone is majestic.

In my opinion, this is a terrible road for a road bike. I don't enjoy cycling back, but the "view" from my perspective isn't worth the ride, as most of it is trees and you only get a brief glimpse of the lake or the valley below, not to mention the Salève. The road is already very bad a few kilometers past Thoiry and only gets worse. I continued past the viewpoint, hoping to eventually reach a decent paved section. However, that didn't happen until the descent to Crozet. Of course, this isn't a problem on a gravel bike or mountain bike. I was glad I didn't get a flat tire.

A 10 km climb from the small roundabout in Châtillon, it's more like 14 km from the Nantua road or the center of Bellegarde. The gradient is fairly steady, ranging from 5.5% to 7.2%, with about ten small steep sections at +8.5%. Very quiet, with very few cars. The road is generally in good condition, but nothing more. There are some beautiful views along the way.

The old railway line from Collonges - Fort-l'Écluse to Divonne-les-Bains was sold in 1964, some of its old sections were transformed into green lines.

This boundary stone marked the border between Franche-Comté (north) and French Bugey (south). To the east, the Pays de Gex was separated by the Sardinian Corridor, in which the Spanish Way was located.

The Col de Bérentin connects the Valserine Valley to the Retord Plateau, passing through the beautiful Jura forests. Its ascent is gradual and the road is little traveled.
