Every year, a straw sculpture competition is held in Valloire. Artists from all over the world participate. Their works are on display all summer long. They are magnificent in their verdant mountain setting. The photos presented here are of a few works from the 2025 competition. There are many more to discover. Self-guided tour and parking nearby. It is possible to walk from Valloire via the hiking trail that runs along the Valoirette. Allow about 1 hour for families.

7월 27, 2025, The most unforgettable day of my life.
Without a doubt, today was one of the most special and beautiful days of my life. I climbed from the Le Grave side, passing Lautaret and catching sight of Galibier, then descended toward Les Karellis along the mountain slope. Riding along the upper side of the Télégraphe, I made my way to Karellis through boulders as large as my body. I tackled Galibier from its easier side, but it was still breathtaking. For us mortals, this place is a land of pain and awe — a raw reminder of life itself. I’ve made a promise to return and climb it from the harder side.

Long, long climb from Valliore, there is a sharp temperature difference from the beginning to the end, so be prepared! Very smooth regulare climb, great road conditions, though someplaces have a vertical drop that will make you want to ride in the middle of the road! No water stops, after Valliore, on the way up (unless you stop at the restaurant).
