This small port has a lot of charm and is very photogenic even though our visit took place under a very gray sky. As an anecdote, a regular visitor told us that the huts were all painted this way because the fishermen and oyster farmers did not want to throw away the leftover paint used for the boats.

La Grande Ville is a hamlet of Saint-Brevin along the Loire estuary, with a long beach characterized by the traditional fishing piers extending far into the water. Here a parking area with restrooms and picnic table is a trailhead for exploring the practice while taking a break along the waterfront biketrail.

This trail winds along a network of salt marshes, offering a rocky route. Expect a mix of dirt roads and boardwalks, with occasional glimpses of herons and other waterfowl. We thought we could take the passage to reach the island of Noirmoutier. Unfortunately, we forgot that there were tides and therefore a submersion of the passage. It is strongly advised to find out about the opening hours. For cyclists it is also important to know that the passage is cleaned before opening in order to make it passable and safe. Despite everything, the stop is imperative, even if it is necessary to make a detour by the entrance bridge to Noirmoutier, this place is absolutely magnificent.
