I am very surprised and impressed by the size of Wilhelmsburg, Fort XII; I hadn't expected that. The 200 m x 130 m castle was built between 1842 and 1849 as the centerpiece of the Ulm Federal Fortress. The citadel could accommodate 6,951 men, and the inner courtyard covers 1.3 hectares. The history of its post-military use is also interesting. Everything is well documented on site.

A great route on hot days with shady passages and sunny sections.

The Fohlenhaus Stone Age Cave in the Lone Valley is a fascinating destination for nature and history enthusiasts. This impressive karst cave once served as a shelter for Stone Age people and today offers a glimpse into times long past. With its distinctive shape and special charm, it exudes a sense of mysticism.

The Ulm Fortress Trail initially leads through the spacious grounds of the Wilhelmsburg. The construction site at Prittwitzstrasse/KönigWilhelm-Turm can be bypassed on a narrow (but sometimes slippery) path.

One of the most beautiful routes in this area, definitely take your time and enjoy. In Lautern you will hear the babbling of the stream, look where the babbling is coming from and you will be amazed. After Lautern in the direction of Bermarningen, a narrow asphalt road awaits you that is very nice to ride. Car traffic is rare here. On the right side of the path the rocks are very close and with luck you will see the amphibians that live here in this habitat. Be careful, the path is uphill and oncoming cyclists are probably going fast, risk of accidents. Further up the bend it gets steep, I measured 11%. The path is not too long, you can also push, but definitely don't forget about the incline. Fantastically beautiful here and unreservedly recommended.
