Great and easy trail with several long dark tunnels.

Lots of cool dark tunnels along this stretch of trail!

The Hermitage of San José in Busot is an 18th-century church. It is distinguished by its Latin cross floor plan and thoughtful architecture. With a three-part nave and chapels between the buttresses, this hermitage is connected at one end to the sacristy and the former hermit's house. Particularly striking features of this hermitage are the polygonal facade with a flat-arched portal, a niche with a relief of San José, and a round oculus that illuminates the interior. This building regularly serves as the site for important events for the community, such as the floral offering to the patron saint during the Moors and Christians festival and the Three Kings' procession on January 5th. Take a torch for the tunnels, 3 are long and very dark. Beautiful views right down to the coast around Alicante.

You definitely need a decent light for this tunnel! Two other tunnels along this section also are long enough to be pitch black in the middle. The tunnels are concreted so the surface is good with no lumps or bumps. My wife’s electric bike has almost a cars headlight but even with that she said she got disoriented. It’s panic mode without a decent light. Note also that some tunnels have a very high kerb along one side, if you hit one you’ll be on the deck, so beware.

The beach of Sant Joan is very long and has white sand. Towards the north you can see the impressive mountains that rise above the coast.

This is a pretty short but pretty steep climb. Expect sections up to 12%. Can recommend though 😁

A nice early warm-up ride around Busot on Gravel from the upper Llano Pastores/Busot car park. Beautiful panoramic view of the sea.
