Always a good place to stop for refreshments. It’s a popular pub and can be busy at times.

The weir spans the River Taff, which flows directly through the heart of South Wales. It's a nice place to stop and refuel with picnic benches and a peaceful atmosphere.

As at January 2024 be aware that the rain run off has created 2 gullies across 2/3rds of the track on the eastern half of the track, still passable, but the the perfect gravel pictured is not so new now.

Yes, looking left to check out the view is great as you head downhill, just keep an eye out so you don't get stuck in the ruts.

The pretty Radyr Weir spans over the River Taff and is currently working as a hydropower scheme, providing energy locally. You may find wild salmon and sea trout near the weir, as well as cormorants and grey herons.

Castell Coch, or the ‘Red Castle’, rises up from the ancient beech woods of Fforest Fawr like a vision from a fairy tale. Yet these great towers with their unmistakable conical roofs only hint at the splendour within. Given free rein by the third Marquess of Bute, architect William Burges didn’t hold back. The highly decorated interiors and rich furnishings of Castell Coch make it a dazzling masterpiece of the High Victorian era. But it’s no exotic folly. Underneath the mock-medieval trappings you can still trace the impressive remains of a 13th-century castle, once used as a hunting lodge by the ruthless Marcher lord Gilbert de Clare. Castell Coch has been a plaything of the rich and powerful for over 700 years. Super cruisy fire road climb to the top of the trails. On the way up you can check out all the trail options jumping off to the sides.

taff trail is lovely . small sections can be industrial, however I found this section through the trees particularly beautiful 🌳

Badly rutted in this section around the Tri point. Stay wide and you'll be okay.

The Blackmill Path is a fantastic section of National Cycle Route 4 that runs alongside Ogwr Fach, linking Blackmill to the west to Hendreforgan and Tonyrefail. It also features on the Celtic Trail, a long distance cycleway from Fishguard to Chepstow. The relatively new, smooth tarmac path cuts through glorious countryside and is a much-needed alternative to the busy main road on the other side of the river.

Stop here and visit the bike shop for all your maps and parts. Such good guys in there helping out.

Castell Coch is a 19th-century castle overlooking the village of Tongwynlais. Whilst there has been a castle on the site since the Norman period, architect William Burges transformed the crumbling medieval ruins into a Gothic masterpiece during the Victorian era, under the request of the third Marquess of Bute.
