The Ashbourne Tunnel is 350m long; with cyclists friendly surface and it connects Ashbourne town centre with the Tissington Trail. After heavy rains a massive puddle forms just before the tunnel - it's about 8inch deep - perfect for a fast ride through 🌊🚴‍♀️

Yes; it’s a tough climb with a couple of challenging hairpin bends in the middle. It’s also on a bus route which can lead to occasional congestion as cars and the bus try to get past each other. In other words a hill-start clipping-in nightmare!

The Tissington Trail is a 13-mile (21 km) traffic-free trail that links Ashbourne to Parsley Hay via the spectacular White Peak countryside. The compacted gravel trail is relatively smooth and flat (save for a relatively steep incline at Mappleton), making it a great ride for all ages and abilities. The Tissington Trail is part of a network of former railway lines in this area that are now recreational routes, meaning the exploration options are plentiful. The trail follows the former Buxton to Ashbourne railway line, which opened in 1899 and closed in 1967. After its closure, the route was transformed into a trail and opened to the public in 1971.

Ex-railway line, now a compact clay-like surface through beautiful rolling countryside and farmland. Side winds are a possibility in places. Very gentle incline/decline. Bike hire, repair, toilets, and snack stops at quite a few points throughout.

Wow - 25km of GRVL heading South on a false flat descent on perfect princess GRVL - bliss.

The people in the bicycle hire workshop are lovely and have lots of local knowledge.

Quiet little gem of Staffordshire walking Can be ridden on gravel/mtb. It’s an alternative to Couldon canal

Quiet track with good views of the surrounding countryside. Be considerate of other users and take care not to startle horses (and their riders)!
