The road right in front of the tower looks private but isn't, don't take the mick though look out for farm equipment

Amazing little bit of single track with some up and down. Bluebell woods and field verges, one pretty skinny bit in the middle before a lumpy field crossing. Starts with a right in the first field after the gate, and then aim for the gate nearest the stream. This reduces the amount of the horrible Newent road you have to ride if coming from Bulley lane over to Gloucester, to about 200m. Doable on 35s in the dry. Could be tough in the wet.

Worth a wander, stroll around and sit on one of the many benches

Nice stop off or meeting point just off the family trail, plenty of outside seating next to the pond.

This bridge is located along the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal and connects the Purton area to the wider canal system. It is a swing bridge with a control room operated by a keeper to manage its movements. The Purton site also features a historic boat graveyard, where old ship hulls were used to reinforce the canal embankment,

Gloucester Docks is a historic area of the city of Gloucester. The docks are located at the northern junction of the River Severn with the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. They are Britain's most inland port.

while mostly rideable, the bit between Purton and Slimbridge can be a bit rough and ready and I struggled on my road bike, but then I was a bit silly taking it here in the first place.

Steep ascent on the Gloucester side. Totally worth it.

"Splatt Bridge" is one of eighteen bridges on the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal. Some of the bridges have classically styled keeper's cottages with Greek columns and pediment.

A scenic stretch of the ride alongside the River Severn. A great place to spot vast flocks of birds over the water.

LV14 SULA is a nationally registered historic Lightvessel commissioned by the Humber Conservancy Board in 1959. Stationed on the Humber Estuary for 26 years until being decommissioned in 1985, for the past 12 years, SULA has been moored at Gloucester Docks. Currently being restored by her new owners, SULA's unique Fresnel lens was lit for the first time in 20 years on 5 November 2020.

The Anchor Inn serves drinks, snacks and traditional pub food. Open 11:30 - 22:00.

The Pilot Inn at Hardwicke offers traditional pub food with a nice view. Open Mon to Thurs 12:00 - 22:00, Fri and Sat 12:00 - 23:00 and Sun 12:00 - 21:00. Food served Mon to Fri 12:00 - 14:30 and 17:00 - 20:30, Sat 12:00 - 21:00 and Sun 12:00 - 19:30.
