11월 16, 2024, Portreath Beach
Great coast to coast route across mid Cornwall mainly off road trails and occasional quiet roads. Coffee stops, pub stops, great scenery, mining history and coastal views. There is nothing to dislike about this route.

Bit of a bouncy ride between Portreath & Bridge but the Tramroad is a great route to follow.

9월 22, 2023, Devoran Quay
Devoran is the end, or start of the Cornish off road coast to coast trail which journeys from (or to!) Portreath. There is a pub, The Old Quay Inn, for refreshments and a car park, next to the A39, which is a handy place to park if you are starting a ride here. In the 19th century Devoran was an important transport hub for the mining industry. Tin and copper were brought here by railway from the Gwennap mines. When the price of tin fell dramatically, mining was no longer the huge industry it was before and the creek silted up through its lack of use.

9월 13, 2023, Carnon Viaduct
The Carnon Viaduct passes over the Carnon River as part of the Falmouth to Truro railway line. The impressive 9 stone arches were completed in 1933. The original viaduct was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The stone piers of the former viaduct can be seen next to the existing viaduct.

9월 12, 2023, Point Hills Arsenic Refinery Chimney
Point Hills Arsenic Refinery was run by the British Arsenic Company, which became the Cornwall Arsenic Company. The arsenic works closed at the beginning of World War Two after being active for a century. The chimney has been preserved and is all that remains of the arsenic works.

9월 11, 2023, South Wheal Francis Mine Ruins
South Wheal Frances was originally a copper mine in the 1820s, before becoming a tin mine from the 1850s. The mine was active until 1918. The structures are relatively well preserved, including the remains of the engine house which contained an unusual inverted vertical beam engine.

Wheal Basset produced over 128,000 tons of copper ore between 1832-1880 and was a particularly important mine of the Great Flat Lode. The well preserved Wheal Basset vanner house was built in 1908, where the mining ore was processed.

11월 2, 2022, Portreath Beach
Portreath marks the start, or finish of the Cornwall coast to coast off road trail. There is an excellent cafe shack run by the Portreath Bakery on the seafront and lots of benches next door so you don't have to worry about getting your bike sandy to sit down with a beautiful sea view. The beach is popular with experienced surfers and families. There are public toilets and a car park closeby. Behind the harbour wall is Portreath Rock Pool, which is an excellent wild swimming spot when the sea is rough or for children. It was created by blowing a hole in the rock to create the pool and then adding a concrete dam. It is swimmable a few hours either side of low tide and is known locally as 'Rocky Pool'.

11월 2, 2022, Carnon Viaduct
The Carnon Viaduct is still in operation, unlike many other local viaducts. It carries the Truro to Falmouth railway line over the Carnon River. Underneath the current structure are the masonry piers of the previous viaduct, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and built in 1863. It was constructed of masonry and wood. The wooden sections were dismantled but the piers remain.
