The Castleman Trailway was once part of the railway connecting Dorchester to Southampton and is named after Charles Castleman, the man who oversaw its construction. The railway ceased operations in 1964. The Castleman Trailway offers a mostly flat gravel path with the route clearly marked by green and yellow signs.

The Castleman Trailway is a 16.5-mile (26.5 km) route in Dorset, ideal for walking, cycling, and horse riding. It follows the old Southampton to Dorchester railway and offers scenic views of East Dorset and links settlements from Ringwood to Poole.

A pleasant section of the wooded area. nothing sketchy along this bit. a few sticky out roots if going off the track. Good tyres recommended.

The site is now on the Castleman Trailway, off Horton Road, the road from the Ashley Heath interchange to Three Legged Cross. The former line crosses the road next to a shop (formerly the crossing-keeper's house). Short sections of platform including the concrete nameboards remain.

Nice cycle path through the Valley. Unfortunately can be a lot of loose dogs in the area, making the ride a bit more cautious.

Known as the ‘Castleman’s Corkscrew’ due to the shape it cut across the forest and Charles Castleman who promoted it The now disused railway line was first proposed in 1844 and ran from Southampton to Dorchester. The line was only disassembled in the 1960’s with over a hundred years of use and today forms part of the National Cycle Network. The route begins in Brockenhurst, a charming village in the centre of the New Forest. Brockenhurst has great links by rail to explore the Forest car free. A place to unwind and spend time enjoying the outdoors. Brockenhurst has plenty of amenities, refreshments, places to stay and more.

As best as I can tell there is no signage where the road forks The footbridge is supposed to be closed due to a broken floorboard ... somebody has however pulled the council fences away from the bridge allowing access ... Use at your own risk

I can confirm, after several revisits that their sausages are still amazing. Their cafe is top notch, friendly staff, fast service, and a nice vibe with lots of place indoors and outdoors to sit. Hockey's Hungry Breakfast is a winner.
