Steep Steps down to the river and for view of the aqueduct are on the Bradford on Avon side.

Yeah unless you're a sicker for punishment this is proper gravel and should be ridden on 40mm+ tyres for best enjoyment. Some pretty steep inclines, it's not a flat ridgeway.

the point at which the Kennet and Avon canal crossed the river and railway line via the Aqueduct built by John Rennie & John Thomas between 1797 and 1801. Good pub here which will reopen summer 2025. This is on the main railway line now becoming a regular (request?) stop since 2011

From Bath to here on a road bike with 25mm is doable but take it easy, further on, its a little rougher and 35mm would be better. here is a good stop of lunch or a drink

As you make your way along Newtown Road, you are afforded lovely views of the Whitbury White Horse. This is one of the many chalk-horses carved into the hillsides of Southern England.

Part of the Imber Range Perimeter Path an open Bridleway, very fast when descending, be careful of the large loose chunks of stone making up the track. Stunning Views.

Small swing-bridge on a scenic and peaceful stretch of the Kennet & Avon Canal, close to the village of Semington.

Monkton Combe is a beautiful and charming village just south of Bath. It has a stunning Norman Church, St Michael’s Church, the obligatory public house, and an old-fashioned ‘village lockup,’ where they used to detain the less sober of the village inhabitants. What is most interesting is that the churchyard contains the grave of Harry Patch, the last surviving British soldier who fought in the First World War. It is well worth having a brief stop here.

I did this ride yesterday. It was deliciously cool on a hot day, and condensation drips do fall from the ceiling, but no problem for us. Both tunnels were lit tho pedestrians were tricky to spot and a bell was useful. We enjoyed the soundscape. I was pleased to have a light so I was visible to those cycling the other way. We encountered a group with a wheelchair user and it was tricky to spot her for those with no lights. A great place to bring kids for an adventure.
