Knightshayes Court is an impressive grand Gothic Revival country house set in a beautiful garden, with over 1,200 unique plant species. NCN 3 passes through the historic Knightshayes Estate, grounds owned and managed by the National Trust.

Sometimes it's the smallest things that restore one's faith in humanity. Cyclist's Rest is a small picnic area in a private field that is complete with bench and table and furnished with some of the finest views in Devon. All accessed via a hole in a beach hedge – blink and you'll miss it!

The millpond, home to numerous ducks, feeds the mill leat, which used to turn a water wheel (sadly long gone) at Halberton Mill (ST010126), now a private dwelling.

Meandering 11 miles (22km) through beautiful Somerset countryside, the Grand West Country Canal is a lovely place to cycle. Here, you will find cafes, public toilets, picnic areas, and you may even spot a horse drawn barge, which have been running along the canal for over 200 years. Many of the historical buildings along the canal have been well-preserved.

A pretty village nestled amongst the Somerset hills, Stawley has witnessed many eras of history. There has been a village here as far back as 1086, when the Domesday Book was recorded. In the village, you will find a well-stocked village shop and tea room. You can also try out three types of goats' cheese made by the local farm.

Enjoy a flat interlude to the rolling roads with a ride along here past an old lime kiln.
