this is cycling infrastructure the way it should be - pity it is such a rare example in the city

If heading north your about to hit a muddy section of tow path, it’s passable with care is heading south you’ll be glad it’s over lol

This is one of England's tallest remaining maypoles. It is a striped pole that stands over 20 metres high. It has been present since the days of Shakespeare, and its original incarnation was made of wood (until it was struck by lightning and destroyed). The current pole is made of aluminium and is officially a Grade II historical monument listed by English Heritage.

The quiet tree-lined back roads to the north of Redditch, in particular around the Aspley Heath and Portway area, are simply quite blissful to ride on. Here you can enjoy the serenity of lush green countryside, leefy country roads, gentle undulating terrain, and tranquil surroundings, which seems totally at odds with the multitude of nearby urban environments.

As you walk along the Worcester and Birmingham Canal, you'll be treated to magnificent views that encompass the reservoir, charming narrow boats, and the picturesque countryside that surrounds you.

Could be slippy. Watch out for slime on the concrete!!

This junction is where the Birmingham & Worcester canal joins the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal and also where you would turn off to follow the Rea Valley Route towards Longbridge and Waseley Hills. Here you will find the old toll house currently being refurbished (2022) and an old hump back bridge which is a great spot to admire the lovely view. Be careful here as the bridge is quite steep and can be slippy. Going up and over the bridge and going along the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal takes you towards Chinn Brook Nature reserve and Earlswood Lakes. Stay on the Birmingham & Worcester canal to get to Hawkesley.

A very well maintained cycling path in the middle of the street. The trees and grass on the side give it a nice feel.

Beautiful view of the campus and Selly Oak from the aqueduct.

Dedicated cycleway with traffic control, perfect for road cycling.

Good for leisure cycling. Traffic free connection between Meon Vale and Stratford. From here plenty of routes into the Northern Cotswolds open up. Not so suitable for sports cyclists, due to the track surface and the mixed use.

Situated on the Worcester and Birmingham Canal, Alvechurch Marina is close to the impressive 30-lock Tardebigge Flight, the Weighbridge pub and Alvechurch train station.

Quirky converted train carriage that's a great little cafe. Well placed on the Stratford-upon-Avon Greenway just outside Stratford. Closed on Mondays but open 9am to 4pm every other day.

Lovely views along the section closest to Rowney Green, decent gravel surface.

It can get a bit slippery after a lot of rain but a good fun little section.
