Lovely track, but unfortunately not for bikes. I had some locals reminding me it’s for walkers only. There’s a sign at one end, but not the other.

The ford is still pretty deep after a few months of little rain, and there's definitely a few puddles sticking around, probably wouldn't go through them on the basis of the farms all around. 💩

Wear clothes to cover your legs, parts are quite overgrown with nettles. (end May 2024)

Super fast gravel linking to the main road at the top and bottom. Great way to link up byway to Land Yeo river crossing

Great place in the summer with a bridge that gives you 800 mm of handlebar clearance you can clear on a gravel bike but not so on modern MTB bars

Tyntesfield asks cyclists to dismount when entering the estate and cycle racks are provided in the car park before entering the welcome building by foot. There is no cycling allowed through the estate, although children on balance bikes are welcome. There is a bridle path on part of the edge of the estate.

Pretty firm in summer, drains well in the spring/autumn. Can be a bit of a mudbath in winter. I've done it on a road bike many times but I would recommend 30mm tyres and above.

Staple Hill tunnel is a disused railway tunnel that was originally part of the Midland Railway's Mangotsfield and Bath Branch Line, which connected Bristol and Bath. The tunnel runs for approximately 1.1 miles (1.8 km) through the hillside, and was opened in 1869. It is now an iconic part of the Bristol-Bath railway cycling path. The cycle path takes up less than half the width of the tunnel and the rest of the floor consists of uneven rocks. The tunnel is lit all year-round, but cyclists are advised to turn their lights on. The roof leaks in places, giving the appearance of rain.

The bit by the small woodland can be rough as seems 4x4s use it but otherwise this is all doable on 32mm city tyres.

The locals call it the Yellow Brick Road - lovely bit of track with views to Wales

Don't attempt unless on a full suss MTB. Loose rocks the size of a child's head. Frankly calling this "intermediate" is dangerous.

This 100-ft (30m) high monument is a Grade II listed structure, built in 1846 to commemorate soldier and local MP Lord Robert Edward Somerset.
