Great history along rebellion way!

I've ridden Marriotts way many times, and it's a great route. However foolishly I didn't appreciate how muddy many parts of it get when it's been wet.

Two village ponds of exceptional size.

Marriott's Way is a 26-mile (42km) surfaced multi-user path which follows the routes of two disused railway lines, running between Aylsham and Norwich.

Pleasure to ride this mostly continuous path from Aylsham to Norwich (in dry conditions) through changing settings and off-road surfaces

This was a lovely off road bike ride and ideal for families. Unfortunately, ruined by out of control dogs off leads, or if on a lead it is a long lead that is barely visible so is a trip hazard. Lots of dogs jump up at you and chase after livestock. I ride responsibly with regard for other users on this shared path but I will not be riding it again any time soon. It’s a shame as I have used it for many years but I’ve had enough of the large amount of dog walkers who use this trail.

As of 9th May 2023, parts of Marriotts Way north of Drayton are a total mudbath and only suitable for MTBs. The surface coming into Norwich is worn out and bumpy but at least dry.

Journeying between Aylsham and Norwich, Marriott's Way is a traffic free trail for hikers and cyclists. It follows the routes of two disused railway lines for 26 miles and passes through some glorious Norfolk countryside. Such as this just outside the city of Norwich.

This small patch of lowland heath makes a dramatic change to the nearby Waveney Valley and its water meadows. Just south-west of the market town of Diss, rambling around this beautiful open access land is extremely pleasant and the Angles Way long-distance footpath cuts right through it.

Quite a grand church with elaborate stonework. There’s a cafe just to the north (Thu-Sat only) and a general store just to the south.

The interior of this church looks rather modern, but St Peter has a lot of history on offer. Unusually the plain, low parapet on this tower has twelve sides to it! The round tower has been built with very clear courses of flints in its lower section, (perhaps 11th century), then a tall section of smaller flints, and the upper section with the belfry made of random flints. This top stage was probably rebuilt in the 15th century. Below the south-east nave window appears to be an early flint quoin, which perhaps marks the extent of the first 11th century church here. The whole church is supported by hefty buttresses, mostly made of red brick. The chancel dates from the 14th century, with curvilinear tracery in the east window, though this was replaced in the 19th century. Nice area of open sandy heath and trees, interesting change from the usual farmland of the district.

Keep your eyes peeled on the approach to Peddars Way as you first have to cross the dual carriage way into Thetford. Take your time...

Norwich Greenways are a series of traffic free routes. Perfect for families with young children. These trails follow the origonal routes of disused railway lines. Many of the old stations have been transformed into refreshment stops and bike hire centres,

Compact road then finished with a nice downhill bumpy gravel section.

Cycle to Seething airfield on a Wednesday or a Sunday to see lots of activity. especially in the summer where various aircrafts visit from other airfields around the country. lots of photo opportunity's for aircraft enthusiasts.
