Great pit stop, mushroom soup amazing

Warm coffee off Marriott way.

I've ridden Marriotts way many times, and it's a great route. However foolishly I didn't appreciate how muddy many parts of it get when it's been wet.

Medieval stone bridge open to cyclists and pedestrians, providing a handy crossing over the river that avoids the city traffic.

Marriott's Way is a 26-mile (42km) surfaced multi-user path which follows the routes of two disused railway lines, running between Aylsham and Norwich.

Pleasure to ride this mostly continuous path from Aylsham to Norwich (in dry conditions) through changing settings and off-road surfaces

It's a nice feature to test your handle bars cycling up to the road. :) However, once up on the road, do not get confused by the Marriott Way sign across the road pointing leftward, as you need to turn right and left onto Station Road and descend down quite a chunky gravel descent (possibly due to construction work).

This was a lovely off road bike ride and ideal for families. Unfortunately, ruined by out of control dogs off leads, or if on a lead it is a long lead that is barely visible so is a trip hazard. Lots of dogs jump up at you and chase after livestock. I ride responsibly with regard for other users on this shared path but I will not be riding it again any time soon. It’s a shame as I have used it for many years but I’ve had enough of the large amount of dog walkers who use this trail.

Takes in the view of the ruins of St Martin's Church and the still working St Mary's Church just behind it.

Only the outer earthwork bank is visible from the road but still a very impressive feature.

As of 9th May 2023, parts of Marriotts Way north of Drayton are a total mudbath and only suitable for MTBs. The surface coming into Norwich is worn out and bumpy but at least dry.

My poor photo quality doesn't really show the radiance of the orange. Does anyone know what they are growing?

Open Wednesday to Sunday, this is a great stop for cyclists or walkers on the Marriott's Way.

Journeying between Aylsham and Norwich, Marriott's Way is a traffic free trail for hikers and cyclists. It follows the routes of two disused railway lines for 26 miles and passes through some glorious Norfolk countryside. Such as this just outside the city of Norwich.

Dog friendly and highly rated, Junction 21 Tea Room sits at the sharpest point of the Themelthorpe Curve on Marriott's Way. It is an excellent pit stop if doing the Themelthorpe loop, at around halfway.

A long section of single track alongside the Caistor St Edmunds Quarry. There is a nice view of the quarry and the surrounding countryside.

Venta Icenorum, ("Market-place of the Iceni") was the largest Roman town in East Anglia. It came to fame as the capital city of the Iceni tribe led by perhaps the famous queen, Boudica. The town is thought to have come into being around 60-61 AD after the tribe’s revolt against Roman rule. Venta Icenorum is one of only three towns in the UK from the Roman era that weren’t sacked, destroyed or built over by more modern towns and cities.

A surprisingly nice area to stop and the Red Lion opposite is a cracking pub for a pint

Norwich Greenways are a series of traffic free routes. Perfect for families with young children. These trails follow the origonal routes of disused railway lines. Many of the old stations have been transformed into refreshment stops and bike hire centres,

Dismount and go into the Gunton recreation area for a break by the river. You can cross easily by foot if you have a towel.
