Bridgewater Canal

Really fun 5-minute ride round the rougher side of the lake, followed by a lovely 5-minute ride around the other, smoother side of the lake....a great way to end a bike ride (*5 mins for a beginner)

The Outwood Trail follows a section of the former Manchester‑Bury–Rossendale railway, crossing the impressive Grade II-listed Outwood Viaduct. It offers a scenic trail through ancient woodland, heathland and grassland. It's mostly tarmac so suitable for most bikes.

this place really does have it all! be it hiking around the reservoirs up to the pike, gravel riding on the trails and the roads around the area are great. There are plenty of café there too. Also go wild or ape tree top and ariel slides if that's what your in too.

The Horrobin embankment separates the upper and lower Rivington Reservoirs. It carries Horrobin Lane across the reservoir, providing a useful link for a walk. The reservoirs were built to supply water to Liverpool.

Upper Rivington Reservoir lies at the heart of the Rivington chain on the West Pennine Moors. The reservoir features an island, a bridleway, and a residence known as The Street along its side.

This reservoir is named after the River Yarrow and is set within the stunning landscapes of the Yarrow Valley, a peaceful rural area with superb views all around.

Typically tranquil due to its low visibility to the public, this place remains undiscovered by many. It would be ideal for kids to have a great time here if the damaged play structures were repaired. Despite this issue, the area is usually well-maintained, offering a pleasant play space and ample wooded areas for leisurely strolls. This section of the Kirkless Trail is paved and winds through forests and across rivers. Along the way you'll encounter several interesting sights including a pond and a disused railway station.

This is a nice downhill section on loose rocks through the beautiful countryside near Ramsbottom. The route can be slippery when wet so be careful.

The Bridgewater Way is a scenic path that runs through Worsley in Greater Manchester, following the historic Bridgewater Canal. The path features beautiful views of the canal, surrounding woodlands and gardens.

Here at Prestolee Locks are the remains of six locks, in two flights of three, and in between the two flights was a passing pound where the lock-keeper's cottage was. The canal was closed down in 1961 due to a lack of commercial activity. It is a very interesting area, and I like that they have invested in the construction of the ‘Meccano Bridge’ footbridge here to replace the old horse bridge. It is quite funny too that the location is known locally as Nob End—nothing like a bit of northern humour!
