Lobdeburg was first mentioned in 1166. The castle was most likely built by the Lords of Auhausen, appointed by the emperor as ministerials, who named the castle after the town of Lobeda. The Roda Monastery was a Cistercian monastery in Stadtroda (Thuringia). It was founded between 1228 and 1247 as a private monastery for the Lobdeburgers and also served as their burial place. After the introduction of the Reformation in 1534, it was abolished. The monastery church was built in the Gothic style in the mid-13th century. It bears clear stylistic traits of the Hirsau and Maulbronn reforms. Since it was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War in 1638, the church has fallen into ruin.
