The half-timbered castle was built in 1917 by Duke Ernst II of Saxe-Altenburg. It served not only as a hunting lodge but is said to have also served as a pleasure palace for his numerous amorous adventures.

The ruins of Lobdeburg Castle are among the most impressive and best-preserved Romanesque secular buildings in Thuringia. They are also among the most important cultural monuments in the territory of the independent city of Jena and represent an important local recreation destination for the people of the surrounding area.

A beautiful 🏰 with an interactive museum, the Bridge of Wishes 🍀, and the castle tavern 😋. Events are held here several times a year. The hiking trails around the 🏰 are simply stunning and offer magnificent views 😍.

With its almost completely preserved structure of double walls, moats and defensive towers, it is one of the most fascinating hilltop castles in Germany and rightly bears the sonorous nickname "Queen of the Saale".

The Leuchtenburg Porcelain Worlds are located on 3,000 m2 and lead through seven worlds of experience. Particularly noteworthy are the world's largest porcelain vase at 8 meters high and the world's smallest teapot at 3x3x4 mm, the bridge of wishes where broken pieces bring good luck and the world's only porcelain church. There is also a special exhibition on porcelain design on the top floor of the Porcelain Worlds.

Lobdeburg was first mentioned in 1166. The castle was most likely built by the Lords of Auhausen, appointed by the emperor as ministerials, who named the castle after the town of Lobeda. One reason for this was probably the good experiences that the emperor had already had with other ministerials in the area who belonged to the family group. Shortly afterwards, the branch of the family that lived here called itself “von Lobedeburg”. The construction of the castle was completed in 1185. As a result of the Vogtland War of 1354–57, the imperial rule of the Lobdeburgers came under the suzerainty of the Wettins in 1358. In 1450, Duke Wilhelm of Saxony conquered the castle in the Saxon Civil War. The Puster family owned the castle until 1591. The complex then began to fall into disrepair and the stones were used, among other things, to build the Saale Bridge near Burgau. Source: Wikipedia

We were lucky on a hike to the Herzogsstuhl that members of the association were there and they enabled us to visit it - it's worth seeing. Thanks again to the members of the club.

You must have seen that. Such a beautiful building in the middle of the forest. We just walked along the signs and were more than surprised. You can also stay inside if you contact the owner.

In the shop you get your tickets for the castle first of all, of course, as well as a short snack, coffee or cake. In addition, souvenirs are sold and there are flyers with information about the castle itself and the surrounding area. The windows are floor-level and offer a beautiful view of the surrounding area up to the Thuringian Forest. Toilets can also be found here. Overall a very modern building.

The most striking building is the so-called Herzogstuhl on the southern edge of the complex. The tower-like half-timbered building stands on a high stone base and was only built at the beginning of the 20th century. It was a place of retreat for Duke Ernst II and was probably used by him as a summer residence

Not much left, the Romanesque architectural style is still easy to recognize. Great view of Jena.
