On the outskirts of Perugia, there are many places where cycle and pedestrian paths have been created. This is one of the most interesting, winding for a few kilometers between San Sisto, Castel del Piano, and Capanne, almost joining the old railway road to Tavernelle, now converted into a cycle path.

The Nestore River route is a picturesque circular route near Marsciano, about 15 km long. It has little elevation gain and winds through woods and farmland, passing through villages such as Mercatello, Sant'Apollinare, and Pieve Caina. Beautiful.

A really tough gravel section, a path carved out of a farm field, with uneven surfaces and tall grass that makes pedaling more difficult. But it's gravel!

On the route through the Umbrian countryside between Castiglione della Valle and Mercatello, skirting the small village of Pieve Caina, you'll come across charming, often abandoned, yet very characteristic buildings that are worth a stop and a photo.

The Ellera-Tavernelle railway was a single-track, non-electrified railway line that connected the Ellera-Corciano station, on the Foligno-Terontola line, with Tavernelle, running along the Nestore river valley. Since the planned extension to Chiusi (on the Florence-Rome railway) was never built, the line always remained an isolated section, and was decommissioned after only 7 years from its activation. Now there remain the sections that are used by pedestrians and cyclists, with MTB and Gravel.
