Copper mining at Tiskasjöberg (Stora Kopparberget) likely began in the 9th century and has been documented since the 13th century. Efforts were made to preserve old apple varieties and old local varieties were also grafted. The fruit trees were planted in collaboration with the Nordic Gene Bank (Nordiska genbanken).
