Legend has it that the name of the town of Włoszakowice comes from the word "hairy" or "owl". Over the centuries, especially since the 17th century, the inhabitants of Włoszakowice, due to their alleged kinship with the owl, were called "Sowijacy". This term, initially perhaps joking or pejorative, over time became a source of pride and a symbol of local identity.

The former state border between the German Empire (later the Weimar Republic) and the Second Polish Republic, which was in force after the end of World War I, from 1920. After Poland regained independence and established peace treaties, including the Treaty of Versailles of 1919, a new Polish-German border was established. Leszno and Wolsztyn, as well as their surroundings, were on the Polish side, while the areas to the west of them remained within the borders of Germany.

In Brenna and its surroundings, due to the favourable terrain conditions (open spaces, favourable winds) and developed agriculture, windmills were common. They were used to grind grain into flour, groats, and also to produce animal feed. These were usually windmills of the koźlak type (characteristic of Wielkopolska, with the entire body rotated on a pole – a trestle). Windmills were often owned by wealthy peasants, millers or landowners. They were an important link in the local economy, providing work and basic food products to residents.
