On the way along the Vechte near Nordhorn.

The ‘Drentsche Veen- en Middenkanaal Maatschappij’ started in 1852 with the construction of the Oranjekanaal. The company bought peat land behind Emmen and in the Odoornerveen. In 1854 the canal diggers reached the place where the canal crossed the route from Coevorden to Groningen. This ancient road followed the Ridge of Rolde. This is where the village of Schoonoord eventually arose.

It offers a nice place to take a break. Several benches and tables are available there.

The "Binnenborger Pättken" is a newly constructed bicycle path near the Vechte Bridge near Neuenhaus. The unpaved Binnenborger Pättken cycle path runs from the junction of Eschener Straße and Veldhausener Straße between fields and meadows, continuing for approximately one kilometer as Binnenborger Straße. The Binneborger Pättken is a well-maintained cycle path and leads over the Bentheim Railway tracks as an unguarded level crossing.

The path along the Vechte, for example, is an option for a bicycle tour from Frenswegen Monastery to reach the Ems-Vechte Canal at the Koppelschleuse in Bookholt and then continue the tour from there.
