The cycle path separates from the coast here and continues above (at least as seen from the direction of Boltenhagen). A small bench invites you to take a break.

Unfortunately, there's no real alternative to the bike path along the road on this section, but that doesn't exactly make it a mountain bike highlight. The views over Lake Dassow at least make up for the technically boring asphalt. But since the bike path is in really good condition, you can get this section over with quickly and move on to more suitable trails.

Yes, the beautiful route certainly challenges you...but where the climbs slowly go up, the descents are all the faster, and all the effort is quickly forgotten.

The circular tour around the "Ratzeburger See" is more demanding than I expected.

During the GDR era, we used the Lübeck-Schlutup border crossing to Selmsdorf many times to visit our relatives who lived along the Baltic coast. I remember the oppressive atmosphere and the pounding heart when you drove down this road and were about to be checked by the GDR border guards. The fact that you can ride a bike here today in the sunshine is a great blessing.

A little to the left, on Mühlenweg, there are a few benches for a break with a view of the water. We had the impression that this is also the local dog bathing area. 😉
