Ruka-Kuusamo is full of beautiful lakes with clean water.

Lahtela rest stop hut area is located along the Vanttajankannas Salpalinja in Kuusamo, featuring a 4.5 km (2.8 miles) military history trail. This trail showcases the restored fortifications from Finland's Salpalinja defense line, constructed during World War II to protect the eastern border. Along the trail, visitors can explore various wartime defense structures, including communication trenches, saps, and firing trenches, with information boards provided in Finnish, English, and German. This trail is not very wide, but the compact terrain makes it really easy, even for amateur cyclists.
