Like the nearby Muttelsee, Wielandssee, and Degersee lakes, the Schleinsee formed as a meltwater lake towards the end of the last Ice Age, approximately 15,000 years ago. The two surface tributaries are insignificant; however, several subterranean springs feed the Schleinsee. The theoretically calculated water renewal time is approximately two years.

The diorama of Humpi's trading expedition from 1470 was reconstructed from black steel at this location between Brochenzell and Hungerberg and inaugurated on May 3, 2025. Measuring twelve meters long and 2.30 meters high, it is an impressive steel structure. A seating area and an information panel complete this site.
