Teufelchen New

11월 23, 2025, Buschmühle

The Buschmühle, situated between Schmiedefeld and Rennersdorf on the left bank of the Wesenitz River, was once a gem of scenic beauty. Its idyllic location made it a popular destination, especially during the summer months. Weekends saw a steady stream of visitors, and individual hikers and groups alike flocked to the romantic Buschmühle from afar. The Buschmühle is the oldest of all the mills in this part of the Wesenitz Valley. Today, it serves as a private residence, and a holiday home is available for rent across the street. We even spotted a good old Ural truck, formerly belonging to the National People's Army, under a carport. It was very well-maintained and preserved, but with a fuel consumption of 100 liters per 100 kilometers, it was surely no longer in use.

The old prison may be small, but it's truly worth seeing. The many explanations inside about the history of the High Middle Ages and the way the nobility treated their subjects at that time make us smile today, but back then they were probably a plague for the poor. The old prison was built in 1774 as Rammenau's second school. Around 1800, up to 200 children were enrolled. The name "old prison" originated in popular parlance because the Rammenau guard, who was responsible for enforcing village ordinances during his nightly patrols, occasionally locked up drunkards and lawbreakers here at night. Between 1920 and 1930, the people of Rammenau called the building "Dog Hole"! A skeleton has been placed on the stairs leading down to the prison as a decorative element.

Today's Old Prison was once a school, built in 1774. Historical furnishings can be seen in a small schoolroom. Annually changing exhibitions on the history of the village and its surroundings are held on the upper floor from Easter to October. Due to a lack of space, a new school had to be built just under 100 years later, which already had 245 children enrolled in 1851. The old school, no longer needed, served as a place for the Rammenau night watchman to let drunkards sleep off their drunkenness. The detour is history, but the abrupt end at the S177 is not. The route of the cycle path on the busy road through Wünschendorf is simply chaotic. Since an expansion of the railway embankment in the Wünschendorf area seems unlikely, one can only hope that the future bypass of the S177 will bring traffic calming as soon as possible.

Beautiful view of Stolpen, including the castle. It's nice to see how it was built on the old volcanic crater (basalt spring dome).

Brettteich lake, right near the castle, offers several seating areas for picnics in the open air. The quaint café "Zur Fichte 15" with its homemade cakes is also highly recommended.

The market square's main attraction is the octagonal sandstone market fountain from 1797. It is characterized by a newly cast fountain bowl based on old models with four water-spouting snake necks. The people of Pulsnitz celebrated its inauguration after extensive reconstruction in May 1995 with a hearty town festival. Since the square was completely renovated in 1993, new flower beds and spherical maple trees, as well as comfortable benches, have adorned the traffic-calmed area.
