The town hall in Gerstungen is the former Villa Kleinsorge from 1919.

Gerstungen station served as a border station until reunification. Citizens of the GDR were not permitted to travel from here without special authorization/enter the Federal Republic of Germany. Since Gerstungen was already within the restricted area, other GDR citizens were also only allowed to stay there with permission, or residents had to carry appropriate identification documents. Built in 1612 under Landgrave Moritz I and burned down in October 1923, the former Herrenmühle (a mill for men) is now a hydroelectric power plant and is family-owned. The lock and weir also date back to the time when the Fulda River was developed into a shipping route between Kassel and Bad Hersfeld under Moritz I. Unfortunately, the lock is no longer operational, unlike the ones further downstream.
