이곳은 예전에 무거운 짐을 실은 동물들이 Bad Orb에서 소금을 운반했던 옛 상업 도로인 남북 방향의 “Eselsweg”와 뷔르츠부르크에서 프랑크푸르트 암 마인까지 동서 방향으로 이어지는 옛 우편 도로가 교차하는 곳입니다. 과거에는 마인츠의 선제후와 주교들의 사냥꾼과 몰이꾼들의 만남의 장소였습니다. 이 이름은 약탈 기사로 활동하며 황제 바르바로사의 군대에 쫓겼던 세 명의 에흐터 형제가 가끔 이곳에 모여 말들을 기둥의 금속 고리에 묶었다는 전설에서 유래했습니다. “Eselsweg”는 현재 111km 길이의 품질 좋은 장거리 하이킹 코스입니다.

The Hafenlohr is a 26.5 km long (27.7 km including the Tiergartenbach) right tributary of the Main River in the districts of Aschaffenburg and Main-Spessart in the Bavarian Spessart region. The Hafenlohr rises from two springs in the municipality of Rothenbuch. The longer and occasionally more water-rich branch is the Tiergartenbach, which often dries up on dry days. Officially, it is considered the upper course of the Hafenlohr main watercourse. The source, known as the Hafenlohr Spring, in the center of the village provides water almost year-round. The Hafenlohr Spring is located at Rothenbuch Castle. It was encased in sandstone during the road widening of the St 2317. Its water flows northwest through the castle moat and, after about 100 meters, flows from the left bank into the bed of the Tiergartenbach, which flows from the Tiergartengrund on the northern edge of the village and is already 1.3 km[7] long. It doesn't provide water year-round, but at times it provides more than the perennial spring at the castle. The spring at the castle was probably once a meeting place for hunters in the eastern Spessart, which is why construction of a hunting lodge began here in 1342.
