🏞️🦢The Ölpersee is not a naturally formed lake. It was created in the 1960s and 1970s by gravel extraction, the material from which was used for the construction of the Braunschweig city motorway (A 391). It was inaugurated in 1979.

🚧🌉 The Ölper Weir on the Oker River is an important structure in northwest Braunschweig, closely linked to the history of the Ölper Mill and the present-day Ölper Lake. Historical Significance: This weir is a listed building and commemorates over 450 years of milling activity. The remains of the mill complex, the weir with its weir bridge, and the foundation walls of the mill buildings are now protected as historical monuments.

🏗️🚢 The visitor platform at the Wedtlenstedt lock in the municipality of Vechelde (Lower Saxony) was set up as part of the ongoing replacement construction of the lock on the Salzgitter Branch Canal (SKS) to give interested parties an insight into this major project. The Wedtlenstedt lock is being modernized to make the Salzgitter Branch Canal navigable for modern, larger cargo ships (large motor cargo vessels) with a draft of 2.80 m.
