Since 1894, the wooded Poppenberg has had a 33.5 m high observation tower in steel framework construction built by the Nordhausen branch of the Harz Club, which was named after Prince Otto zu Stolberg-Wernigerode. On the occasion of the dedication of the tower on July 12, 1894, the mountain peak was christened Fürst-Otto-Höhe in honor of the forest owner. Climbing the Joseph Cross is an absolutely great experience.

It is Thuringia's oldest dam and very beautiful to look at.

The dam of the Neustadt Dam was built between 1904 and 1905. The dam supplies drinking water to the city and parts of the Nordhausen district. Swimming and recreational sports in the reservoir are prohibited. The dam may not be entered either. Hike around the lake is possible.

The Joseph Cross is a must in the south-eastern Harz. It stands on Josephshöhe and is, so to speak, a piece of Paris in the Harz Mountains. The Joseph Cross is the largest iron double cross in the world, which was built based on the model of the Eiffel Tower in 1896. The 38 meter high steel framework is held together by around 100,000 rivets and weighs 125 tons. You can climb the observation tower for a fee. The best way to get there is a short hike from the Auerberg car park. If you want to do a longer hike, it is best to start from Stolberg.

You should definitely visit the Carlsturm when you are out and about in the southern Harz. I particularly liked the rise of Sophienhof very much. However, you should be free from giddiness, because even then the 50 meter high tower is very impressive. However, once you've made the 155 steps, the view is phenomenal! Only flying is more beautiful.
