Half an hour west of Elstra rises the Kälberberg, which is one of those heights that stretch between Bischofswerda and Kamenz and line up like links in a chain and are popularly referred to as the "Seven Mountains". The steepest, although not the highest, is the Kälberberg. It is only 363 meters high. It is covered with forest all over. The mountain is easily accessible from the west, but not from the other sides. To the north, east and south the slopes are so steep that from here one can only climb them with effort. At the foot of the actual cone nestles the village of Boderitz, which is one of the villages known as the Wohlaer Ländchen. From Boderitz the height of the Kälberberg can be reached in 20 minutes, albeit after a very steep ascent. But the effort made is amply rewarded; because the distant view from the Kälberberge is a delightful one, especially to the north-east, since the towering forest does not obstruct the view here. The mirrors of the lake-like ponds near Deutsch-Baselitz flash up in the sunshine. The eye wanders far beyond the national borders. The extensive forests near Hoyerswerda complete the horizon. Even the Spreewald area is clearly visible. The villages of Welka and Wohla nestle at the north-eastern foot, the latter with an important manor. Down from the Schwarzen Elster valley, the idyllic village of Prietitz greets you with its "Hainggarten" that covers the castle hill. The nunnery of St. Marienstern greets you from the same direction. To the south, the view sweeps through the forest clearings to the Bischofswerda area. The [487] eye sees the towns of Gödlau, Rauschwitz, Kindisch, Burkau, as well as the Butterberg near Bischofswerda and the Valtenberg near Niederneukirch. The neighborhood of the Kälberberg includes the Wohlaer Berg, the Eulenstein, the Hennersdorfer Berg to the north, the Brandhübel, the Holy Mountain and the 411 meter high Black Mountain near Rehnsdorf to the west and south.
