A good signpost from a distance.

The baroque former Catholic rectory stands on the market square. It was built in 1732 for the clergy of the neighboring Catholic Laurentius Church. Since 2015, the beautiful half-timbered building has housed the Hohenhameln police station. Above the entrance is the coat of arms of the Wittelsbach Clemens August of Bavaria with the year of construction in Roman numerals. Born in 1700, Clemens August was not only Archbishop of Cologne, and thus one of the electors who elected the emperors of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation. He also held the offices of Bishop of Münster and Paderborn, as well as Bishop of Osnabrück. From 1724 until his death in 1761, he was also Bishop of Hildesheim and thus responsible for the church in Hohenhameln. Between 1716 and 1719 he was already Bishop of Regensburg. Because of the accumulation of offices, he was also called the Lord of the Five Churches.

The Catholic Church of St. Laurentius on Clauener Strasse was built in 1912 and 1913 and consecrated on August 10, 1913 by the then Bishop of Hildesheim, Adolf Cardinal Bertram. Inside there is a baroque high altar from the 17th century, a Marian altar from 1740 and the statue of Laurentius donated in 1908 by bachelors from Hohenhameln.
